Pastoral Care Committee
1) What this ministry is…
Pastoral care is responding to Jesus’ love and his commandment to love one another. The pastoral care committee provides support to members of the congregation in times of need, but especially emergencies. The types of support may include: transportation to doctors appointments, soup/casseroles, hospital/home visits, sending cards.
2) Are meetings held? How much time is involved?
Nancy Benton-Brown checks with Fr. Jerry on a weekly basis to see if there is any need. Members provide care on an “as needed” basis, according to their skill sets or interests.
3) Are any special talents or qualifications needed?
Most people learn by doing, but training is available. Most important, listen, notice other’s needs, notice absences, and follow with a phone call or some other appropriate response. Newcomers particularly need to be noticed and greeted. A useful, but not required skill, is availability to drive during the day.
