Lay Eucharistic Ministers
1) What this ministry is…
Lay Eucharistic ministers, also called chalice bearers, assist the clergy and represent the congregation in preparing and serving the communion wine in the context of the Eucharistic celebration.
2) Are meetings held? How much time is involved?
After initial training, which is brief and arranged by mutual convenience, LEMs serve when scheduled, usually not more than once a month, at regular services of Holy Communion. They need to vest about 15 minutes prior to the service. Total time commitment is typically about an hour and a half per main service, but LEMs are also sometimes needed at other services, which may be longer or shorter.
3) Are any special talents or qualifications needed?
LEMs need to be persons who are punctual, calm, flexible, open to direction, in love and charity with their neighbors, neat in appearance, and team players.
4) How does someone get involved?
