1) What this ministry is...
The altar guild prepares the altar for the services on Sunday and Tuesday and cleans up after each service. Specific set-up tasks include removing communion vessels and linen from the altar to the sacristy, preparing the altar for the next service and, filling the liquid candles. Clean up includes washing the communion vessels washing and ironing the linens.
2) How much time is involved? Are meetings held?
Set up and clean up each take about 15 minutes. Usually, guild members will be scheduled on a rotating bases based on the number of members. Once a year there is a training and review meeting for all members of the altar guild.
3) Are any special talents or qualifications needed?
There are no specific talents or qualifications needed to be on the altar guild besides an interest learning what needs to be done and why, a dedication to doing the best job you can and, in being a dependable member for the times that you are scheduled to do the work.
