1) What this ministry is...
Plans and coordinates community service projects, specifically participation in the Lincoln Paint-A-Thon. We may at some point start a second activity. The group began a number of years ago and had about six to ten members. We brainstormed for ideas for service activities, and our original goal was to plan one activity per month. However, at this time, we only participate in one activity per year.
2) Are meetings held? How much time is involved?
We do not have meetings. The Paint-A-Thon is usually the second Saturday in August. We sometimes prepare the home the week before (about a three hour commitment) and paint the house (about a five hour commitment).
The group could assume new activities (such as Habitat for Humanity or highway clean up) if persons were willing to commit to plan, coordinate, and recruit volunteers for new projects.
3) Are any special talents or qualifications needed?
None, although experience is certainly welcome.
4) How does someone get involved?
Sign up for the Paint-a-Thon (usually a sign-up sheet is posted in about June or July).
5) What could improve this ministry?
It would be wonderful for the community service group to grow back to its original intent. Continued interest and new workers would help. Our current repeat painters are great, but it's always wonderful to have new people join. The number of projects that the group performs dropped because of a lack of members with the time to coordinate projects and/or plan activities.
6) Who is the contact person (or persons)?
Kim Thomason (402) 789-2188.
