1) What this ministry is...
Eucharistic
ministers (EMs), also called chalice bearers, assist the clergy and represent the
congregation in preparing and serving the communion wine in the context of the
Eucharistic celebration.
2) Are meetings held? How much time is involved?
After initial training,
which is brief and arranged by mutual convenience, EMs
serve when scheduled, usually not more than once a month, at regular services
of Holy Communion. They need to vest about 15 minutes prior to the service.
Total time commitment is typically about an hour and a half per main service,
but EMs are also sometimes needed at other services,
which may be longer or shorter.
3) Are any special talents or qualifications needed?
EMs need to be persons who are punctual, calm,
flexible, open to direction, in love and charity with their neighbors, neat in
appearance, and team players.
4) How does someone get involved?
Interested persons should express their
interest to the rector, who will arrange for training and licensing prior to
service. Because there is a maximum number of EMs
who can reasonably be licensed and employed, extra candidates may be added to a
waiting list. The rector reserves the right to decide who shall serve.
5) What could improve this ministry?
Suggestions for improvement may be channeled
through senior acolytes and current EMs.
6) Who is the contact person (or persons)?
The Rector,
Father Jerry Thompson, at the church office, 474-1979.
