Poetry at the Lion - Maria Nazos

  • St. Mark's on the Campus Episcopal Church 1309 R Street Lincoln, NE, 68508 United States (map)

Welcome to Poetry at the Lion! All poets and poetry fans are welcome!

Each month, a featured poet will read from their works and shape the evening’s experience. Poetry lovers can stop on their way to eat out or bring a brown bag meal and stay for the whole evening. Light refreshments will be provided.

The featured poet for November is Maria Nazos.

From her website, https://www.marianazos.com/:
Maria grew up in Athens, Greece, and Joliet, Illinois. Her poems, essays, and translations have been published in The New Yorker, Poets & Writers, TriQuarterly, World Literature Today, and elsewhere. She’s the author of the poetry collection PULSE (Omnidawn, 2026) and the translation collection The Slow Horizon that Breathes (World Poetry Books, 2023) from the poet Dimitra Kotoula, longlisted for the Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award.

Maria has worked almost every job, including as a whale-watching boat attendant, table dancer, teacher, barista, sunglasses salesperson, bartender, and, probably, the worst waitress in the entire history of the Eastern Seaboard. If she spilled Pinot Noir on you, she apologizes.
