RECITAL MONITOR APPLICATION FORM

Hi! Thank you for your interest in applying to become a Recital Monitor student intern at St. Mark’s on the Campus Episcopal Church! Please read all of the details below carefully. There are general requirements, and descriptions of the job, as well as some exciting benefits! We hope to be hearing from you soon and can’t wait to meet you! We will readily answer any questions you have and give you a more-comprehensive overview of the tasks for this position. It is really an easy job, and is a VERY good way to earn some extra cash and experience with music recording technology and gain valuable experience for your future as a musician— whether that be a church musician, performer, or music teacher!

SMOC Recital Monitor Student Intern Details and Requirements

  • St. Mark’s on the Campus is conveniently located directly down the street from the Glenn Korff School of Music (directly next to the EMA building) and hosts a performance space (sanctuary) with dazzling acoustics; a stellar Yamaha C7 Conservatory semi-concert grand piano (fully tuned bi-monthly and fully regulated and voiced yearly); a one-of-a-kind Bedient pipe organ; and permanent; professional audio/video recording capabilities.

  • St. Mark’s is seeking qualified music students (preferably) to join the team at SMOC to aid in the coordination of the many recitals we host each year (student, faculty, and professional recitals and recording sessions.) St. Mark’s is regularly used for recitals of all kinds, and also for recording of albums by various artists.

  • Recital Monitors will report directly to and collaborate with the church Office Administrator in scheduling their shifts according to the recital schedule at St. Mark’s.

  • Recital Monitors are responsible for being present at all recitals held at St. Mark’s. Responsibilities include:

    • Setup and Tear-Down for all recitals (move piano, provide stands, tidy after, etc.)

    • Recording and livestreaming recitals (as needed, per requests of recital performer)

      • Uploading recording files to OneDrive and for Office Administrator to disperse to performer(s)

    • Chauffeuring performer(s) to “green space” room

    • Ensuring the security of the building following recitals

    • Monitoring piano humidity system in conjunction with Office Administrator and filling up when needed.

    • Ensuring that all recording equipment is organized neatly and properly following each recital

  • PAY: each Recital Monitor will receive $50/recital. (for most recitals, this equates to around $33/hr!) Note: recitals gain in frequency at the ends of the semesters, but there are a steady flow of recitals each month.

    • Note: the perfect candidate is one who will promote the space as a recital venue! The more recitals there are at SMOC = more work opportunities = more money!

  • Requirements:

    • Candidates should be music majors (or minors) and understand the need of performers in a recital.

    • Ability to move a 7’ 6” grand piano (it is on a caddy and easy to move)

    • Basic understanding of Logic Pro (or similarly GarageBand etc.) (specific training to be provided)

    • Ability to monitor audio and video simultaneously

    • Learn quickly

    • Strong communication skills via email and phone with Office Administrator

    • Use OneDrive and Restream (specific training to be provided)

    • General availability on most weekday evenings (scheduling adjusted between the two monitors and church volunteer as needed)

    • General availability on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons/evenings

    • Must be residing in Lincoln for the entirety of the Academic Year!

      • Students beginning student teaching or graduating at semester are considered on the basis of their residency in Lincoln and availability

    • Recital monitors required to arrive to the facilities at least 30 minutes prior to all recitals and recording sessions they are scheduled for. Duration of work is typically 1.5hrs.

  • Possible Additional Paid Work Opportunites:

    • As needed, you will be provided the opportunity for more work as the livestream operator for the Sunday 10:30AM services.

    • Livestream funerals and other events (if requested and accepted)

    • Paid performances in services (pending approval and recommendation from Director of Music.)

  • Benefits:

    • First-Priority to rehearse and practice at St. Mark’s (pending the availability of the space with consideration to: Organ lessons, Church Choir rehearsals, UNL Choir rehearsals, and scheduled rehearsals performances for recital rentees)
